Relive the action from the Johnson Health Tech Grand Prix Series on Eurosport
Eurosport to screen highlights of the Johnson Health Tech Grand Prix Series this July
Cycling fans will be able to relive Annie Simpson’s win in the Johnson Health Tech Grand Prix Series once again next month, after it was confirmed that Eurosport will broadcast two dedicated highlight’s shows from the five-round Series. Two 30-minute programmes, comprising all of the action from Oxford, Peterborough, Colchester, Woking and the Grand Final in Stoke-on-Trent will be shown to coincide with Eurosport’s coverage of the Tour de France and build up to the Olympic Games during July. In total each of the Century TV produced shows will be shown on five occasions via British Eurosport. The news follows hot on the heels of the biggest edition of the Johnson Health Tech GP Series yet, which culminated in Stoke-on-Trent twelve days ago with Matrix Fitness – Prendas’ Annie Simpson sealing the honours and the accompanying white jersey.
“The Johnson Health Tech GP stepped up another level this year, displaying some really exciting women’s racing, and it’s fantastic to hear that the whole series will be showcased on Eurosport,” said Series Champion Annie Simpson. “To have two whole programmes dedicated to women’s cycling, it’s huge for the sport and it certainly means a lot to the riders who travelled the country to compete, and their sponsors .I’m looking forward to watching it and reliving one of the highlights of my cycling career.”
In total 77 riders took part in one or more rounds of the five race Series, in its second year thanks to backing from Stoke-on-Trent based Johnson Health Tech UK. Commenting on the 2012 Series, Jon Johnston, Managing Director of Johnson Health Tech UK said;
“The success of the Johnson Health Tech Grand Prix has completely surpassed expectations; growing from one round in 2010 to the challenging five round Series we have today. Feedback from the riders, cycling fans, and local authorities in the host cities has been really encouraging, and we’re delighted to be able to contribute to the growth in women’s cycling through sponsorship of such a key event in the cycling calendar.”
“We are delighted to be bringing the Johnson Health Tech Grand Prix Series to Eurosport, with its own dedicated highlights package,” said Alastair Grant, SweetSpot Commercial Director. “This clearly shows that there is appetite for professionally promoted women’s cycling events on television, and gives us renewed enthusiasm to work with Johnson Health Tech to make the 2013 Series even better.”
The first programme will contain highlights of the opening three rounds of the Series in Oxford, Peterborough and Colchester, with the second episode showing the action from Woking and Stoke-on-Trent.
